What is Republic Day?
We celebrate Republic Day on January 26th every year because it was on this day in 1950 that the Constitution of India came into effect thus making India a republic nation. Therefore, it is an occasion to commemorate the adoption of India’s Constitution.
Republic Day Parade
We celebrate Republic Day in India with great zeal and enthusiasm. While all state capitals and major cities celebrate the day with parades, a grand parade is held at the Rajpath in New Delhi. Dignitaries from all over the world as well as the general public attend this parade.
The Indian National Flag is hoisted after that the National Anthem is sung. The President of India delivers an “Address to the Nation” on this day before giving away awards and medals to various personnel for their meritorious service to the nation. It is a time to remember the many heroes and especially the martyrs of India. On this day we pay special tribute to them. The Prime Minister of India also pays homage to the soldiers at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate, New Delhi.
